Prayer Shawl Ministry

Mission Statement

The mission of the Prayer Shawl Ministry of Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish is to knit or crochet shawls, anoint them with prayer and meditation, and then give these shawls to persons in need of prayer, comfort, or blessings. When the shawl is presented to someone it is a visible expression of care, concern, and God's love. The recipients then use the shawls in the ways that are personally helpful.

FAQ

  1. Does one have to be a member of the Prayer Shawl Ministry group in order to make a prayer shawl for the ministry?
No. Anyone who desires to make a prayer shawl may do so, provided it is made with prayer for the recipient. Prayers are interwoven into every shawl.

  2. Where do I bring the shawl once I have finished it?
When you finish a shawl, deliver it to the Parish Office. A Priest will bless it before it is given away.

  3. Who receives these shawls?
We give the shawls as gifts to the sick, the bereaved, and newly married couples. We also make baptismal "stoles" for babies who are baptized at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church.
