a concrete (delicious and nutritious) expression of our parish mission: "where one can feel the loving embrace of God". Our work is directed to "feeding the hungry" as our Lord asks in the Gospel.
Volunteer parishioners provided containers of soup to Catholic Charities and Branches in Rio Grande, and Lazarus House in Wildwood for distribution to the families and individuals they serve.
The soup is made fresh each month in the kitchen in our Parish Hall. Volunteers prepare, package, and delivee the soup. For this work of mercy, donations came in other forms as well. This money was used for pots, pans, kitchenware, produce, and soup package materials (microwavable containers, plastic utensils, napkins, crackers, and labels). Several local businesses contributed by offering produce for free or at a reduced price.
Charity extended beyond our parish. Faith and good works reveal God's active presence in our community. "Simply Soup" was a welcomed and fruitful ministry.
We will continue the mission. We invite your participation. "Many hands make work light".
We are grateful to God and to all of you for the wonderful and generous outpouring of support. In the name of Jesus, you bring to life our faith, our parish mission and so add goodness to the lives of our neighbors in need.

November, 2021 Update
Thank you to all for sharing your time, talent and treasure for the ‘Simply Soup’ Ministry. For 2017 - 2019 we made over 4,900 cups of soup for three local agencies.
2020 was a tough year for all, and we resumed making soup and delivering soup to Branches in Rio Grande and Lazarus House in Wildwood in the fall of 2020. However, with respect to spacing and having too many helpers, we are a smaller group making "half" batch, half the usual 450 cups at 250 cups. Our Pastor has infomed us that soup production should be at this rate until further notice.
Some folks have suggested we make soup at home, however the Cape May County Health Department allows us only to make soup in the kitchen of OLSOS Parish Center.
As soon as we are allowed back in the kitchen at full strength, we will call all of our volunteers, and we will put an announcement in the parish bulletin.
Donations/checks can be made out to Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish and please put ‘Simply Soup’ on the memo line of your check. God Bless you.
